Brezonde 1920 F.C. (known as Brezonde 1920 Sport-Club until 1997) is a football club located in Brezonde which participates in the Second League. The club is currently sponsored by Cazia Barzona, as well as the city of Brezonde.
History[]
Brezonde was founded in 1920 by Barzuna youth who played on Sundays, after church. The team was mostly amateur until joining the Cape Cross Parish League in 1953. After a few strong seasons, it was promoted to the 2. Liga. They had a hard time in the Second league, but they got new players and eventually won the league in 1982. With star striker Luis Carlos Menezes the club was not relegated from the 1. Liga and actually finished second in 1986. Menezes left Brezonde in 1987 for a record Th. 1,200,000. They were relegated back ti the 2. Liga in 1987-88 and would remain there for many years. Menezes returned to the club and coached them from 1999-2000 but it was his son, Carlinhos, who would really help the club. Joining in 2005, he got first-team starts in 2008 at the age of 18 and in 2011-12 he led them to second place and a promotion. He was sold to St. Marks Koningstad for €5-6 million in the summer of 2012.
For the 2012-13 season, Brezonde started off strong, being the league leader early on. They finished a solid ninth. In the 2013-14 season, the club have not performed so well and are sitting just one point outside the relegation zone. Brezonde were relegated at the end of the season.
