The Brunant Conservatives (Dutch: Conservatieven van Brunant), abbreviated to CvB, are a far-right nationalist political party in Brunant. It was founded in 2007 when Sofia Andersen left the Free Liberal Party in disagreement and founded her own party. Surprisingly, the CvB managed to attract support from radical rightists and even some more moderate conservatives. But with Andersen at the helm, they have alienated Catholics (and other religious), Muslims (and immigrants in general), the entire left wing and any sort of rights group not lobbying for a company. There is a variety of support for the party's free-economy plans, but do not want to be publicly associated with it, due to its many controversies.
History[]
2017 elections[]
After four years without representation in congress and a perceived lack of a voice by the leadership, Andersen announced in late 2016 that CvB would soften its stance and modify its rhetoric. All out attacks on swathes of society would be replaced with a defense of Bruanter culture, values and traditions, <<at risk of being threatened>>, according to a December 2016 publication.
In early 2017 she and her father made a public reconciliation after years of being apart, and it was announced their parties would merge to form a new Brunant Conservatives, to stand up for and better represent real Brunanters.
Following the outbreak of the 2017 Green Party corruption scandal, Andersen delivered a scathing speech attacking Wostor and the government. She said that it was unacceptable from a Prime Minister, and furthermore stated that <<Brunanters have to decide if [they] can truly keep on backing a government that allowed corruption to happen unrestrained for nearly two years.>>
Polling fairly low over the previous months, just after the scandal the party rose to six, and shortly after to 14 projected seats. On election day, the party managed to win 12 seats and one senate position as well, in what was deemed a coup for the far-right.
In early 2018, Andersen had a falling-out with party deputy Joost Schneider, and appointed Teresa Gerrit to the position instead. In January 2019, on the start of the campaign for the 2019 general election, Andersen announced her retirement as party leader and named as her successor Gerrit.
