Carrington Parish is a Parish located on the north-east coast of Central Island. It is bordered by Cape Cross Parish to the north, Central Parish to the west and Drenthe Parish in the south. Unlike other Brunanter parishes, the function of senator was not used in 2012; The last senator of Carrington Parish before then was Marcus Villanova. Currently, the senator of Carrington Parish is Warren Sheraldin.

History[]

Carrington Parish was named after Sir James Carrington, but its history goes back some 1300 years. In 712, a group of Byzantine settlers from Brezonde moved south to find new farmlands and settled down in a region they called Niesium (nowadays Niesburg). Niesburg grew through the years and was later conquered by the Arabs around 820. This town was co-inhabited by both Christians and Muslims, a rare sign for these times. Niesburg was taken over by the Venetians and became a haven for bandits in the 15th century, such as Mateus Brasefort. When the Brunanter War of Independence broke out in 1427, Niesburg was the site of a siege which destroyed much of the town, including its castle. After the war it was largely out of Brunanter control until the 1440s.

The next major settlement to be founded would be Carrington. This town was founded around 1460 and was located further east than Niesburg. It was built around a castle and was meant to be a deterrent to pirate (or Venetian) attacks. Carrington was the site of a massacre starting the Brunanter Civil War and during the Franco-Brunanter War the whole parish saw heavy fighting and an occupation.

In the 19th century Niesburg but especially Carrington became manufacturing centers in Brunant and were the sites of some of the earliest factories in the country. Between 1890 and 1920 they became important to Brunant's war effort (in the Great War) and in making cheap household goods. During the 1920s and 1930s Carrington received many immigrants from Southern Europe, but with the depression coming most of the factories would be shut down, leading to massive unemployment. The parish began leaning to the left and became a stronghold for communist President Maarten Dolmatoff.

In 1941 Nazi Germany invaded Brunant and Carrington Parish would quickly come under occupation. Historic Niesburg would suffer heavily, especially with the liberation in 1944. Canadian soldiers would participate in both Niesburg and Carrington's liberation, alongside some American troops.

Economy[]

Historically agriculture was the largest economic sector in the parish. From around 1880 to 1930, manufacturing was big throughout the state, but this sector is very small as of 2010. In the 21st century, the economy of Carrington Parish is heavily based on tourism and transportation. Its location close to Koningstad and other large cities has helped it out
