The Census of 1855, also known as the Great Census, was the first organized census of Brunant. Undertaken from March to May 1855, it was the first to officially document Brunant's population, which was established at 290,400 people.

Background[]

Prior to the 1850s, the government did not have censi, instead having a number of local censi for larger cities or more informal ways of tallying population for taxation purposes. A general census for Brunant was pushed through by President Jan Van Draak, largely the work of his State Secretary, Adrian Brunell.

Five years after the Great Census, the Institute of Statistics was founded.
