The Dial Tower, at 4 Van Horne Avenue, is a 15-story office tower in the Business District of Koningstad, Brunant. Dial Tower serves as the location of The Commodities Exchange and as headquarters for the KCVD Group. The tower met some opposition for its design, being known as "the phallus" and "the egg". Upon opening in 2003, it was awarded the REAS' prestigious Design of the Year award.
History of 4 Van Horne Avenue[]
4 Van Horne Avenue was the location of The Commodities Exchange. Formerly headquartered in the downtown district, a new building was erected in 1922 at 4 Van Horne. While the building was well-designed, it was badly built and had partially sunk into the ground at the southern end. After many years of this, it was eventually decided to replace the building in the late 1980s, along with the lines of the SD Bank Building project, but not nearly as large.
Dial Tower[]
The plans for a new location for the exchange were being drawn up, but the early 1990s recession left the CODEX Group (the exchange owners) at a financial disadvantage and unable to bear the cost of such a building. They were finally able to bring KCVD Group and Channel Cross on board, planning to create an office tower to house offices and the exchange itself.
With enough funds raised, a serious project began in 1997 with a modern round design being selected for the building. Demolition of the old exchange building took place in 1998 and construction began in 1999. Work on the building progresses on-schedule and with fewer delays. The building was officially opened in 2003 and was named after Henry Dial, the founder of the exchange. At the time of completion, it was the sixth-tallest building in Brunant, but due to new construction is currently ninth.
