Dortmund, known locally as Adrianstad (Adrian City, after King Adrian I) is a town located south of Koningstad. Though independent, it is considered a part of metropolitan Koningstad and is a part of the national capital region. Dortmund connects to Koningstad via three bridges, the Adrianbrug, the King Anthony Bridge and the Marten Bridge.
History[]
Dortmund was founded on the 3rd of September, 1621. King Adrian I authorized his right-hand man, Philip Henneman to construct a military post for defense if his nearby summer retreat was ever attacked. Located on the south of the Dortmund River, it was soon surrounded by the homes of soldiers, tradesmen, skilled laborers and their families. In the 20th century more people came to live here as the cost of living in Koningstad increased. During the German Invasion of Brunant the castle was occupied by the invaders due to its strategic position overlooking the Dortmund river. The police often come to Dortmund due to local drug problems and criminals, as the area is one of the less wealthy in the city.
