Dortmund Motor Company folded in 1980 and the brand was dormant until being taken over by a consortium of businessmen in 2010 looking to make a small electric car successor to the Dortmund Type 57 and Type 65 models. This car was meant to go on sale in November 2011 but significant delays and financing issues meant the car did not go past a full-size non-functioning prototype.

The issues saw plans for a new Dortmund scrapped and the rights were eventually sold to Traspesian company Atenis in 2014, who is looking to revive the company. Plans are underway for a Berline saloon and a new Faxia city car. Atenis announced in November 2014 the development of a hatchback meant to slot in between Atenis' City and Spacia models. A saloon car based on the Exenia would also be produced.

Production of the Berline would occur at the Atenis Drenthe factory alongside sister car Atenis Exenia.

In was announced in December that a small city car, to rival the Smart Fortwo and Toyota iQ in size and function. A special-made 0.8 liter turbo diesel will power the car, along with a modified version of the Atenis 1.2 liter, all 3-cylinder models.

Faxia[]

The first Faxia model rolled off the line December 2016 as a 2017 model. The car will use a standard 127 hp 4 cylinder engine. The first preproduction model was shown at the 2017 Koningstad Automobile Salon, most notably differing in the use of large chrome wheels, which have been replaced with smaller alloys. The price for the Faxia begins at 14.900 € (more expensive than the similarly-sized Atenis Spacia but better equipped), and can go upwards of 20.000 €.

In late 2018 a better-equipped Faxia SL was announced alongside the basic Faxia as a 2019 trim level.
