Guillem III de Pinós (1302-1376) was a nobleman in the County of Barzona. He was the 4th Marquess of Ciudad Barzona (present-day Brunantstad) from 1356-1376 and held several political positions within the Brunanter islands.

Biography[]

Early life and family[]

Born the eldest son of Guillem II de Pinós, 3rd Marquess of Ciudad Barzona and Alix de Larria, a daughter of Fernán of Barzona. He was a nephew of Diego of Barzona, 5th Count of Barzona and a first cousin of Juan II of Barzona, the last sovereign Count of Barzona.

Guillem was set to marry Carolina de Larria, his aunt, but she entered the Pabella Abbey and the wedding plans were canceled. He then married Juana Cornel, a daughter of the Count of Cornel. They had seven children:

  • Juana (1336-ca. 1345)
  • Guillem (1337-1398)
  • Eleanor (born and died 1339)
  • Elisenda (born and died 1340)
  • Elisenda (1342-ca. 1400), married firstly to Fernán de Larria, secondly to a Venetian merchant
  • Sancho (born and died 1344)

Career[]

Guillem grew up in Pabella, where his father served as regent for his uncle Diego in the early 1310s. Following his father's death in 1356, he became Guillem III, 4th Marquess of Ciudad Barzona, and inherited his father's lands.

The Marquess of Ciudad Barzona held several political offices within the County of Barzona. He served as primary adviser to his first cousin Juan II and was made Lord of Silvana, a newly-founded settlement near the Silvana Abbey, which was established by his father. Most of his policy resulted in preventing Venetians from becoming the new dominant power in Brunant, in which he mostly succeeded.

At his death in 1376, he was succeeded by his eldest son, Guillem IV.
