Biography[]

Player[]

Kim Chan-yong began his footballing career at Ulsan Hyundai FC in his hometown Ulsan in early 1993. He developed as a player quite quickly and was sighted by a scout from Brunanter club Hendrikstad FC in early 1995; the club bought him in the summer of that year. In mid-2000, Kim Chan-yong was bought for an undisclosed (believed to be high) price by Sporting Markstad, where he also performed well and was the captain. However, Sporting Markstad suffered some financial problems and were forced to sell him; he was sold to FC Donderar in the summer of 2001. He returned to Hendrikstad FC in mid-2003 after a deal with Arabian FC fell through; at Hendrikstad, Kim Chan-yong would continue to be a major player and a proficient goal scorer until he retired from playing football in the summer of 2011 at the age of 37.

In late 1994 and early 1995, Kim Chan-yong played for the South Korea national under-20 football team. He played sporadically for the South Korea national football team from 1999 to 2005, finishing with a total of twelve international caps and three goals.

For the 2011-12 season, Kim Chan-yong was appointed as a youth scout by Hendrikstad FC. When manager Aristide Koné left for FC Pieter II, Kim Chan-yong was appointed as manager. In this position, Kim Chan-yong has also been successful, winning the club promotion to the Second League at the end of the 2014-15 season. Hendrikstad FC subsequently won the 2015-16 Second League, achieving its second consecutive promotion and reaching the First League.
