Marco Miorna (27 October 1989 in Valletta) is a footballer playing for Grijzestad University S.C. as a forward. He is a member of the Miorna family.
Biography and career[]
He was born and grew up on Malta. His father, Otto Miorna, spent time looking for good universities for Marco and his brothers Sialo and Luigo Miorna, and was eventually recommended Grijzestad University in Grijzestad, Brunant. Marco and his brothers travelled to Grijzestad to study.
His father, knowing the brothers' interest in football, as well as having interest in football himself, looked into football in Brunant and quickly came into contact with Grijzestad University S.C.. Seeing Marco's playing, the club accepted him into their squad during the 2011-12 winter break. Otto Miorna also starting getting involved with the club, and was given the position of assistant coach. Marco and his father recommended Sialo and Luigo to the club also, and they were put on the reserve squad for the 2012-13 season. During the winter break, they were shifted to the starting squad because of the quality of their playing, and Otto Miorna was promoted to head coach/manager. Since then, the club has had very good results, with the Miorna's, especially Marco, high in the goalscorers' table. For the 2013-14 season, Marco even won the RBFA Player of the Season award (and was second in the goalscorers table as a whole).
A knee injury limited his playing time in the 2016-17 First League, which he finished with four goals in just eight matches played. He recovered in the next season, playing 25 matches, but his form was somewhat irregular as he scored 12 goals.
Marco made his debut for the Malta national football team in November 2012 as a substitute in a friendly against Finland, and scored his first goal in a friendly against Cyprus in August 2013.
