Monster Hospital is a Brunanter black comedy film about a hospital run by and for monsters. It was written by Adam Charlson, produced and directed by Herbert S. Hosen (under the alias of Glenn Debois), and released in 1963 by Studio 5 Producties.
The Grijzestad Hospital was used for some exterior shots.
The film was commercially successful enough to warrant a spin-off TV-series, less dark and edgy, thus more suitable for the whole family.
Premise[]
The film centers around Dr. Frank N. Stein, the Head Physician of Monster Hospital, who is losing control over his life and work; his once-beloved hospital is falling apart. By inexplicable events the dead and more importantly the undead are brought back to life. At the same time the staff must deal with outside, human protest against the hospital. Meanwhile Stein falls for a patient's daughter who resembles the bride of Frankenstein with her iconic hairdo and comes from Castle Frankenstein, Germany, for her father's treatment.
