Sergio Cañete (born 23 November 1991) is a Traspesian footballer playing for Mediterranean FC and the Traspes national team. Cañete is a very quick player and is one of the best players in the Traspesian league, playing as both a forward or an attacking midfield/winger.
Cañete passed through the youth squads of Real Alcacer and became a regular in 2011, winning th league in 2011-12. Being one of the best league players due to his pace and eye for goal he was the target of several clubs. He moved to MFC in December 2013 for 6.9 million €, a record for a Traspesian player. Cañete would be the replacement for Antonio Florente. He was the most paid player in the Traspesian league because he earned 37,000 euros per week.
At MFC Cañete had an excellent start, scoring eight times in just five league appearances, and scoring once in the team's 3-1 win over FC Kings in the cup. To date, he has 13 league goals to become the club's leading top scorer.
Cañete was on hand to present the club's new shirt for the 2014-15 season to the media in March 2014. He is the top scorer of the league in 2015, and he has finished with 23 goals to win the Golden Flower Award. He also has 3 goals in the 2014-15 Johan II Cup.
He passed by the U17 and U20 squads of the national team and had a first appearance in 2011. Since 2012 he is a regular player in the national team. For Traspes, he has 16 goals in 22 games.
